Text Appearing After Image:
The main object of this work is, to improve the Dwellings of the great mass ofSociety in tht temperate regions of both hemispheres ; a secondary object is, to pro-duce a popular work upon a sulyect which has been hitherto treated in a mannercalculated rather to repel than to invite the general reader; and a third object is, torender Domestic Architecture a fit study for Ladies. Architectural Works, even of the cheapest kind, are generally published at a pricemade on a calculation of a sale of from 500 to 700 copies paying all expenses, that of copyright included; but this Encyclopa:dia is published at a price whichrequires a sale of above 3000 to pay the expenses of paper, engraving, and printing, without any remuneration to the Author. There can, therefore, be no question of itsbeing by far the cheapest Architectural work ever published; indeed, there is novolume whatever now on sale in Europe, of equal bulk, and similar type, and withan equal number of engravings, nearly so cheap.
